What to look for when choosing a Merchant Service provider
This guide will help you when choosing a new merchant services provider. Nowadays it is so important to ensure that your service provider can meet your requirements. A lot of providers have hidden fees or provide a reduced quality of service to support low, introductory card processing fees. As they say: there is no such thing as a free lunch!

There are 4 main things you want to look for when choosing a provider:

1. How long will it take them to send you the money - some companies can take up to 2-3 days to settle the money in your bank account which for cashflow for a small business can be a nightmare.

2.Transparent pricing - Cost is a crucial factor in choosing your new provider so pay close attention to the terms and conditions you are agreeing to. Many providers offer low, introductory, card processing rates but hide or inflate fees elsewhere. Make sure you can do the math on the transaction fees. If you can't do the math yourself then how can you find an error?

3. Support - It is important to check that your provider can support your business needs and does not charge extra for telephone or technical support. Check with your provider that they can provide 7-day support and if a terminal breaks down how fast can they deliver.

4. Terminals - can they provide the terminal that your business requires. For example, does your broadband break down constantly - if so, make sure you can connect through a Sim Card inserted in your terminal.

I work with some fantastic Irish and UK payment providers that offer the above solutions to businesses. Each customer that I approach is treated differently and we offer bespoke pricing to suit your business. At the end of the day, every business has different requirements and needs for their business, so we take that on aboard when pricing.
